The black diamond of Rua do Alecrim

Club Obsidian is Lisbon’s serious gentlemen’s club — the one that treats the genre with the respect of a good cocktail bar and the production values of a proper theatre. It sits behind a matte-black facade on Rua do Alecrim, on the climb between Cais do Sodré and Chiado, and from Thursday to Saturday it runs the most polished stage show in the city: choreographed sets on the hour, a main stage cut from backlit black stone (the obsidian is not just a name), and a sound system tuned by someone who clearly cared.

Inside, the club is built in layers. The main floor holds the stage and the long bar; a mezzanine of leather booths looks down on both; and behind the mezzanine, four private lounges run on a bottle-service basis for groups and for guests who prefer the show to come to them.

The show

Performances run every hour from midnight, and they are the reason Obsidian wins the arguments about Lisbon’s best club night. These are rehearsed acts — aerial work, classic burlesque numbers, and the club’s signature blackout set performed under UV — not a playlist with a pole. Between stage sets, the dancers work the floor, and private dances happen in dedicated booths beside the mezzanine at posted, non-negotiable prices. Nobody at Obsidian will ever surprise you with a number that was invented on the spot.

Drinks that respect you

The bar takes itself as seriously as the stage: proper cocktails at Chiado bar prices, a genuinely good gin list, and champagne by the bottle that costs what champagne costs — the list is printed, dated and handed to you before you order. The €20 entry includes your first drink, and the card minimum at the bar is €30, which two cocktails will cover.

How to do Obsidian well

Arrive after midnight — the first stage set is the warm-up, the 02:00 set is the one people talk about. Book a mezzanine booth ahead on Saturdays; they go to reservations first and walk-ups fight over what remains. Dress like you meant to come: smart casual clears the door, but the staff notice a jacket, and the staff decide where you sit. And treat the dancers like the professionals they are — the fastest way to be shown Rua do Alecrim again is to forget that.
