Boite Hipopótamo has been pouring drinks near Marquês de Pombal for more than 35 years, which in nightlife terms makes it practically archaeological. This is not a modern lap-dance club but a genuine Portuguese “boite” — night club, bar and restaurant in one, with hostesses and striptease woven through the evening rather than sold from a menu of tiers.

The hostess format

The house style is company first, spectacle second: hostesses work the room, dinner can be had at the club’s own restaurant, and striptease arrives as part of the night’s rhythm rather than every fifteen minutes on a timer. It is a slower, older-fashioned proposition than its neighbours a few streets away, and it makes no apology for that.

What it costs

Nothing is published — no entry price, no drinks list, no dinner menu. That is consistent with the genre; boites have always preferred the quiet quote at the table. Ask at the door, and settle terms before the evening gathers momentum, as one should in any hostess venue anywhere in the world.
