Sol e Pesca began life as a fishing-tackle shop and kept the fittings — rods, reels and tackle line the walls — when it reinvented itself as a conservas bar serving tinned Portuguese seafood with wine and beer. It sits on Rua Nova do Carvalho and was one of the first venues to anchor the Pink Street revival, which is why it feels less like a themed bar and more like a survivor that got lucky with the neighbourhood.

You’ll find it minutes from Cais do Sodré station in the middle of the Pink Street strip, so it slots naturally into the front end of a night out. Cards are accepted and staff are used to visitors. One clarification worth making: the ‘Sol e Pena’ you may see online is simply a misspelling of this bar — there is no separate venue by that name.
