Why Albufeira for a stag do
If Lisbon is the city option, Albufeira is the specialist. It's the Algarve's undisputed stag capital and the biggest UK stag scene in Portugal - a compact resort town built around one job, which is showing large groups a very good time in the sun. Faro airport is 40 minutes away, the drinks are cheap, and everything you need sits within a short walk of everything else.

The Strip explained
Ask what the Albufeira party strip is called and the answer is simply The Strip - officially Avenida Sao Joao de Deus, in the newer Areias de Sao Joao district, a short walk up from Praia da Oura beach. It's a single, brightly lit run of bars, clubs, cabaret and late-night food, and it is the reason most stag groups pick Albufeira. Everything is on one road, so you crawl rather than commute.
For a change of pace, the Old Town near the fishermen's beach is prettier, calmer and more Portuguese - good for an early dinner and first drinks before you head up to The Strip for the serious part of the night. Most groups base themselves within walking distance of The Strip and rarely need a taxi after dark.

- Friday
Land at Faro, transfer to Albufeira, drop bags and hit the beach bars at Oura for the first drinks. Dinner in the Old Town to line the stomach, then straight up to The Strip for an opening crawl - no plan needed, the road does the work.
- Saturday
The big one. A booze cruise or boat party out of the marina in the afternoon, drinks on the water and a swim stop. Back for a shower and a feed, then the main night: pre-drinks, a booked club table on The Strip, an adult venue or cabaret, and a late finish.
- Sunday
A slow beach day at Oura, a long lunch and as little movement as possible. Keep the last night short - the Faro transfer comes round faster than anyone wants.

Where to stay
Stay in or right next to Areias de Sao Joao, the district around The Strip - it means you can walk home and skip the late-night taxi entirely. Stag-friendly hotels and aparthotels cluster here and near Praia da Oura, many with pools and self-catering options that suit groups. For twelve or more, a private villa with a pool and terrace often works out cheaper per head than hotel rooms and keeps the group together.
Be honest with hotels and villa owners that it's a stag group - the stag-friendly places are used to it, and the ones that aren't will make your weekend harder. Expect a deposit on villas and larger bookings.
Getting there and around
Faro airport is about 40 minutes from Albufeira, with direct UK and Irish flights year-round. Pre-book a private transfer or minibus for the group - it's the cheapest and simplest way to move a dozen people with luggage, and it's waiting when you land. Taxis and shared shuttles also run, but a booked transfer avoids the arrivals scramble.
In town you'll barely need a car. Uber and Bolt operate in Albufeira alongside local taxis, handy for the beach or the casino, but The Strip and most accommodation are walkable, so the airport run is the main journey you'll pay for.
Group size and booking tips
Albufeira is built for numbers, so big groups are easy here - but the bigger the group, the more you book ahead. Boat parties, club tables and villas for twelve-plus should be locked in weeks out, especially in summer. Put one organiser in charge of a shared kitty so the money doesn't unravel on night two.
Look out for group discounts and stag-goes-free deals from activity operators, boat companies and clubs once you pass a headcount - it's a competitive market and worth asking every supplier. Villas and boats will want a deposit to hold the date.
Best time to go
Albufeira is a summer resort, and May to September is peak, with The Strip at its busiest and the boat trips running daily. June and September are the sweet spot - hot, lively and a little cheaper than the July-August crush, when prices and crowds top out.
Out of season (November to March) the town is much quieter and many Strip venues scale back or close, so a spring-to-autumn stag is the safe bet. For guaranteed heat and full nightlife, aim between late May and late September.

The Strip, explained
The Oura Strip is a kilometre of bars, clubs and neon running from Oura beach up into town, and it is the reason Albufeira exists in stag folklore. It works in layers: the lower Strip near the beach runs earlier and looser; the upper Strip holds the bigger clubs that peak after midnight; and Sunset Cabaret anchors the top with the biggest show room on the coast. You cannot get lost — the Strip is one line — and that simplicity is precisely why groups love it: nobody needs a map at 03:00.
Where to stay: Oura, old town or a Falésia villa
On the Strip (Oura): zero transfers, maximum noise — perfect for groups that plan to be part of the noise. The old town: 20 minutes on foot, prettier, quieter mornings, and restaurants that are not built for hangovers but for actual food. A Falésia villa: the premium play — pool, privacy, space for the private show, ten minutes by taxi. The honest advice: groups under 8 take Oura apartments; groups over 8 take the villa and budget the taxis. Either way, book before the boat — accommodation and catamarans are the two sell-outs.
The boat chapter
The catamaran party cruise is the set-piece of every Albufeira stag: three hours along golden cliffs to the Benagil caves, a swim stop in water the colour of a screensaver, open bar throughout, and an on-board show option for the groom timed for the anchored bay. Book the afternoon slot — the boat returns at 18:00, exactly one shower away from the Strip's first act. July and August slots sell out weeks ahead; a group that books flights before the boat has planned in the wrong order.
Day plans between the nights
Albufeira mornings are for the beach — Praia da Oura is at the bottom of the Strip and demands nothing of anyone. When the group revives: jet skis and parasailing from the beach, a jeep safari into the hills with lunch in a village that has never heard of the Strip, or golf for the faction that claims they came for golf. The trick is one activity per day, booked for after noon — anything scheduled before 11:00 is a donation to the operator.
The season, honestly
June and September are the connoisseur months: everything open, water warm, queues short, prices kinder. July and August are the full machine — the biggest crowds, the highest energy, and the strictest need for advance bookings. Winter is a different town: the Strip runs weekends only, half the coast sleeps, and a stag group gets villas at 40% and empty golf courses. If the group wants THE Albufeira experience, come in season; if it wants the Algarve without the queues, October is criminally underrated.
Strip etiquette & staying out of trouble
Albufeira has hosted forty years of stag groups and has exactly two rules that matter. One: posted prices are final — the Strip's clubs print everything precisely so that 03:00 negotiations never happen; a group that respects this never has a bad night. Two: the staff's word is law — doormen here manage two thousand people a night with good humour, and the group that argues with them loses, always. Everything else — fancy dress, chants, matching shirts — the Strip absorbs with a smile.
