An Oura Strip institution

Matt’s Bar sits on Avenida Sá Carneiro — The Strip — in Areias de São João, near Praia da Oura in Albufeira, and it doesn’t undersell itself: the venue bills itself as the Algarve’s most iconic nightlife spot. It’s a free-entry late bar built for volume and energy, with a big dance floor, VIP areas, and a terrace complete with a mechanical bull. On the Oura Strip, it’s one of the names that comes up first.

Who you’ll find here

The crowd is a party crowd, built heavily around hen and stag groups and the wider British-and-Northern-European holiday scene that fills the Strip in season. Resident and guest DJs keep a Hip-Hop, R&B and House floor moving until close, and the mechanical bull and VIP tables give the night its set pieces. It’s a big-night-out party bar — sociable, loud and unpretentious — rather than a quiet meet-and-talk room.

Drinks, music and hours

Entry is free and the bar runs daily from 10:00 all the way to 04:00, with DJs and MCs carrying the late hours. Drink prices aren’t published, which is standard for the Strip. The signature extra is the weekly Saturday boat party that runs from May through September — a daytime spin-off that feeds back into the bar’s reputation as the Strip’s party engine.

Practical notes

It’s right on the main Strip, so it’s walkable from most of the Oura and Montechoro accommodation and impossible to miss once you’re there. English is the default language of the Strip, so no barrier there. Come for the DJs, the dance floor and the boat party rather than a subtle evening — and if the boat party’s your aim, sign up ahead, as summer Saturdays fill.
