Aduela is a retro Portuguese tavern on Rua das Oliveiras, one block off the Galeria de Paris strip, and its olive-tree esplanade is one of the most crowded in Porto’s Baixa. Inside it’s all old-tavern character — tiled walls, mismatched furniture, cheap wine by the glass. Outside, the terrace is the real venue: a sprawl of tables and standing drinkers that fills early and stays full.

Who you’ll find here

This is a gathering point rather than a pickup spot, and worth flagging as such. Locals and travellers crowd in shoulder-to-shoulder for cheap wine and petiscos in the early evening, and the sheer density makes it sociable by force — you end up talking to whoever’s beside you. It’s where the night assembles before it moves on to the late bars and clubs a block away, and that’s exactly the role to give it.

Drinks, food and hours

There’s no cover and prices are genuinely cheap: fino draft beer, house wine, and small Portuguese plates to share. There are no reservations, so the terrace is first-come, first-served. It opens late morning most days and runs to 02:00, stretching to 04:00 on Friday and Saturday — though in practice the crowd tends to drift toward the nearby dancefloors well before then.

Practical notes

Come early if you want a table on the esplanade; by mid-evening it’s standing-room and spilling into the street. Cards are generally accepted. It runs its public presence through Facebook rather than a website, so there’s little to check ahead — just turn up. Treat Aduela as the warm-up: cheap wine, easy conversation, and a short walk to wherever the night goes next.
