Praia da Rocha runs on volume — sunbeds packed by ten, bars going until whoever’s left standing gives up, a strip that genuinely doesn’t quiet down all summer. I run on energy, and at 22 I’m the youngest working this stretch of beach, which the bar staff figured out fast; I’m on first-name terms with most of them by the second week of any season. The red cliffs look completely different at 2am than they do in the tourist photos, and honestly that’s my favourite version of them.
