An azulejo landmark on Avenida Arriaga
The Ritz Madeira occupies one of Funchal’s most iconic buildings, opened in 1905 with a famous azulejo-tiled façade, on tree-lined Avenida Arriaga overlooking the Municipal Gardens. It is a café-bar-restaurant with a big open-air esplanade and a first-floor terrace, a central and long-established fixture in the heart of the city.
See-and-be-seen with live music
The large street esplanade makes it a see-and-be-seen spot for drinks, with live music by day and at weekends. Saturday nights step it up with an upstairs dinner-dance cabaret show, giving the venue a foot in both casual daytime and dressed-up evening.
Cocktails and Madeira wine
The drinks run to classic cocktails like the Piña Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri, house sangria spiced with cinnamon, Madeira wines by the glass, and draught and bottled beers. Menus are published as PDFs on the site, without online prices.
Practical notes
Entry is free, with the Saturday dinner-show nights ticketed or by reservation. The esplanade runs daily roughly 11:00–22:00. Card payment and English-speaking staff are standard. Find it on Avenida Arriaga facing the Municipal Gardens in central Funchal.
